WoW-Mania WOTLK
Linux - Step By Step Install Guide
Efflixi - 2017.11.26

Please note, this guide assumes a basic knowledge of Linux and how it functions versus how Windows/Mac functions. If this is your first time ever using Linux please follow tutorials related to your distribution to get familiar with how it works before trying to get WoW running.

Linux Programs Required
Install these if your distribution does not have them included
---

Mono (.NET framework for Linux)
---
Follow the instructions here for your particular distribution - http://www.mono-project.com/download/#d ... lin-ubuntu
NOTE - Please try to download the complete version. It is larger and has more components and will prevent any future issues.

WINE (Run windows executables as native programs)
---
Follow the instructions here for your particular distribution - https://www.winehq.org/download

Transmission (Linux friendly, no ads, bit torrent client)
---
Follow the instructions here for your particular distribution - https://transmissionbt.com/download/

WoW Install
---

If you already have a working Linux WoW install and just need the patch installed, skip to step #6

01. Download the game from the windows torrent - https://www.wow-mania.com/start
02. The torrent already has the folder structure we need so just move the folder to where you want to install WoW. Alternatively, you could just point Transmission to the place you want it to download and keep it there.
03. At this point, WoW should be installed to its permanent place and your required programs from above should be installed. **BEFORE applying the patch, test it!!**
04. Right-click Wow.exe in the WoW folder and choose "Open with Wine Windows Program Loader". If this is NOT the first option in your right-click drop-down menu, make sure WINE is installed properly. Follow their documentation. Do NOT use the Launcher.exe. This launcher does not work on Linux and could cause issues.
05. WoW should startup at this point and bring you to the login menu. Don't try to login, we just needed the game to create it's configuration files. Exit the game.

If the game works, continue to step #6, if not, explain the issue. Make sure you give us your machine specs, linux distribution, and any other relevant information.

06. Download latest WoW-Mania patch (2.5.5 as of Oct 31st, 2019) - https://www.wow-mania.com/downloads
07. Open the patch using your preferred archive utility
08. Go into the patch folder in the archive
09. Extract it directly over your current WoW install, making sure to overwrite any existing files. This may take several minutes.
10. That's it! Just right click Wow.exe in the WoW folder and choose "Open with Wine Windows Program Loader" (in my case I can just double click the .exe but that may not work for all distro's)
